There was pandemonium in Maiduguri, Borno State on Saturday morning as explosions led residents to fear another Boko Haram attack.

The blasts sounded four times successively, and began at about 7:30 am across the city.

A senior State Security Service (SSS) official has assured Premium Times that the blasts were not from the terrorist sect Boko Haram.

“Oh sorry, that was just a friendly firing carried out by soldiers of the 7 Division in Maiduguri; they were just test firing some equipments,” said the officer, begging to remain anonymous.

Residents fear that, although the city has been relatively calm in the past months, the insurgents might strike soon.

Similar blasts were reported last week between Friday and Saturday at about the same time.
