The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has urged Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State to call the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University to order, to arrest the crisis at the institution.

The Zonal Coordinator of ASUU Lagos Zone, Dr Adesola Nasir, made the appeal on Tuesday at a news conference at University of Lagos.

Nasir said that the union was disturbed that the state government had continued to turn its face away from the anomalies in the institution.

He said that LASU was sliding into chaos and urged the government to act fast in arresting the drift at the institution.

``’Developments at LASU have since gone from bad to worse due to what we perceived as witch-hunting of our members by the present administration," Nasir said.

He alleged that the VC had withheld ASUU-LASU check-off dues based on a letter from a suspended member of the union.

``Rather than the VC to pay the check-off dues to ASUU-LASU, he returned the dues to individual lecturers," Nasir alleged.

He said that the union had cause to conclude that the VC had continued to abuse the laws and regulations of the institution.

According to him, ASUU will join the Joint Action Front (JAF) on Jan. 28 to stage a protest from Ikeja to Alausa Secretariat.

``Our union, in a bid to encourage the Lagos State Government to do the needful and help LASU would be joining other civil society groups to stage a rally.

``This is to further call the attention of the good people of Lagos state and the Fashola’s government to the brewing crises at LASU," Nasir said.
