The Presidential Jet of the Ghanaian government caught fire at the Kotoka International airport, Accra.

While it was attempting to take off, reports say, the Falcon 900 slowed down and caught fire.

The government has released a press statement explaining this incident, and observed that “the fire was caused as a result of friction between the wheels and the runway surface”.

The aircraft was apparently on its way to Equitorial Guinea when it happened. The crew experienced initial problems with the computer system as the craft taxied on the runway, prior to taking off.

As a result of this malfunction, “the aircraft returned to the Air Force Base in Accra to reset the computers,” and it was discovered during the second take off that the “aircraft lost two main left wheels.”

It is currently unknown the passengers onboard at the time of the fire.
