Sports Wolves confident of progressing to the next round of Caf Confederations Cup

The only Nigerian club in the continental championship, Warri Wolves have expressed confidence of progressing to the next phase of the Caf Confederation Cup after their slim victory over FMCK of Congo on Saturday.

Wolves striker, Gbolahan Salami scored twice to give the Seasiders a 2-1 victory over MK Etancheite as they prepare to travel to Kinsasha for the second leg of the clash.

The team media officer, Moses Etu said that they are hopeful of beating Etancheite in the return leg in a fortnight.

"The game was very tough for us. We had our chances but only took two and when we ought to have closed up proceedings we allowed them to claw their way back into the match," Etu told Goal.

"We still have a lot to play for and no one should assume that we have been eliminated. We are fighters and we shall go to Kinshasa hoping to get that decent result that will ensure we book a place in the playoff round.”

No Nigerian club has qualified for the group stage of any Caf Club competitions since 2012 when Sunshine Stars got to the semi final of the Caf Champions League before they were eliminated by Al Ahly of Egypt 4-3 on aggregate.
