Sports Sunshine Are Still Title Contenders; Boboye Insists

Sunshine football club of Akure coach, Kennedy Boboye, has insisted that he hasn't given up on NPFL title race despite losing 3-0 to Warri Wolves last Sunday.

The Akure Gunners, who have slipped back to 4th position on the log are still five points behind league leaders, Enyimba, who also fell at Rangers on match day 32.

Three goals from Super Eagles forward, Gbolahan Salami brought the Akure club down to their knees but the manager has insisted that it is not over until the season wraps up.

According to the soft-spoken tactician, his men tried their best but were only unfortunate to have bowed to the Seasiders.

“My players had a better game in the second half but the their (Warri Wolves) second goal destabilised us and in the process of my team attacking, they got their third goal,” Boboye told Goal

“That was not what we bargained for. Our intention was to get a win or at least secure a draw but we lost and since it happened that way, we will go back to the drawing board towards a better outing in our next game in Kano.

Sunshine face Kano Pillars on Sunday and he insists that their title ambition is still on course, while promising to raise a formidable team that would tame Sai Masu Gida in the absence of his key players who are on national duty.

“We are not going to give up,” he continued. “We will keep fighting till the end of the season.”

“I’m unshaken about the absence of my key players because we have reliable replacements for them and they will get the job done,” he concluded.

Top striker Tunde Adeniji, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Prince Aggreh, Paul Onobi, Stephen Eze and Dayo Ojo will not be available when Sunshine Stars visit eighth placed Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano. Goal
