A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed the 50-count charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, filed against Timipre Sylva, former governor of Bayelsa State, and All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in the state.

According to VANGUARD, trial judge, Justice Ademola Adeniyi, held that the charge constituted an abuse of the judicial process.

He faulted the EFCC for dragging Sylva before two different judges of the court on charges that bordered on the same transaction, proof of evidence and set of witnesses. He also expressed disapproval that the EFCC lodged the 50-count charge against Sylva after its two previous charges were in 2012 and 2013, dismissed by the high court.

Sylva, in the charge, was alleged to have connived with three other people to siphon over N19.2 billion from the Bayelsa State treasury between 2009 and 2012.
