Herdsmen from different parts of Nigeria have stated that nobody can stop them from grazing their cattle in any part of the country, especially in the south. They described such restriction as unconstitutional.

The nomads, who spoke to PUNCH under the auspices of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, dismissed the ultimatums given by different groups for the herdsmen to vacate the southern part of the country.

This is despite the fact that groups, including foremost Yoruba farmers’ pressure group and ethnic militia, Agbekoya Farmers Association of Nigeria in the South-West; the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (South-East); the Independent Peoples of Biafra (South-East); and some ex-Niger Delta militants in the South-South, stated their readiness to defend their territories should herdsmen attack their communities again.

Suspected Fulani herdsmen, who grazed their cattle from the northern part of the country to the southern part, had been accused of killing, raping and robbing members of their host communities.

The Enugu incident, where several lives were lost, was the most recent.

But the herdsmen, in separate interviews with Punch correspondents on Saturday, noted that it was wrong for people to restrict their movement as the constitution guaranteed their movement into any part of the country.

The Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Plateau State, Mr. Nuru Abdullahi, said nobody could deprive Fulani herdsmen of their constitutional right of free movement.

There is far more land in the north and the Fulanis have more than enough space up there for grazing their cattle. Fulani encroachment upon our land shall, and must be resisted at all costs. The Grazing Bill is Buhari and the Jihadist North'a backdoor effort at using Federal authority to advance Fulani territorial expansionist schemes. Secondly, any and all southern areas upon which Fulanis are allowed to bring their cattle shall, sooner or later, become theaters of ethno-religious conflicts with potentially devastating consequences. The chief reason for the illegal incursions, armed provocations and Jihadist belligerence is the Muslim north's declared plan to Islamize Nigeria.

"No One Can Stop Us from Grazing in the South" — Fulani Herdsmen

These are fighting words. Simply put, it's a declaration of war!

Who are the Fulani Herdsmen? Who are their leaders? Why have they chosen to leave the confines of their expansive Sahel Savannah homeland in the Muslim north to engage in land grab and Islamization campaigns in the land-strapped, mostly non-Muslim south?

Who issued the marching orders? And lastly, who is their sponsor?

Not all herdsmen are even Nigerians for a start...an average northern Fulani don't and never have access to those assorted rifles although they might have their own traditional weapons they use for hunting. Those Fulanis with AK47 usually herd their cattle throughout the west Africa, they're a combination of the west African countries. In 2007/2008,they pass by the north where they destroyed farms and stole cattle from the northern Fulanis, similar incident happened in 2015 #north as well too....all these happened in katsina state and I was a witness to that.
