The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase has said the current recruitment exercise in the force will go through layers of scientific processes to automatically knock out undeserving elements.

He particularly said a psychometric test designed to ascertain the following:

- ability,

- usefulness,

- aptitude,

- critical thinking and

situational judgment, as well as the personality of the new recruits will be carried out as part of the exercise to take only applicants deserving of the police job.

Mr. Arase told Daily Trust during a brief chat after he presented a paper at a public lecture organised by the University of Jos (UNIJOS), in Plateau State, weekend, that the current recruitment exercise will be done differently from previous ones to get the best for the police.

Entitled: “Police-Public Partnership in Prevention and Control of Violent Crimes and Conflicts in Nigeria,” the public lecture dwelled on the establishment, duties and powers of the Nigeria Police Force, challenges of violent crimes and conflicts, the imperative of Police-Public Partnership, and the responsibilities of the police in fostering the partnership; as well as the roles of the citizens in the partnership.

The lecture was organised by the Advancement Office of the university, headed by Mr. Yakubu Gomos.

Arase said the current recruitment will bring out the Nigeria police as a force to meet the policing targets in a contemporary society.
