NIGERIA - We read that the Presidency is losing sleep over the possibility that the apex court may rule that President Jonathan may not be eligible to run in 2015.
The predominant fear is that if President Jonathan is declared unfit to run next year, the ruling party (PDP) would have a hard time organizing another National Convention to elect a replacement candidate to meet the INEC deadline of December 18 - which is two days after the hearing that determines President Jonathan's fate.
The court will be ruling on the fact that President Jonathan has sworn the oath of Presidency twice already.
Speculations are rife as kingmakers and stakeholders have reached out to their contacts to get an idea of how the case would go and the verdict that will be arrived at.
On the other side of the fence, President Jonathan's opposition is waiting with bated breath, eagerly hoping that the case would be decided against Jonathan's having taken the oath of office twice already for presidency.
As December 16 draws to a close, supporters of Jonathan will be playing the sympathy card, while those who want the President out will want a neutral and unbiased arbiter to preside over the case.
