We have received a report that Boko Haram has launched an attack on Maiduguri, Borno State's capital, and Monguno, another town in Borno state.

This attack is coming less than a day after President Jonathan's re-election campaign in the state.

As at the time of this report, the Nigerian army is "repelling the simultaneous attacks."

“Troops are repelling a simultaneous attack on Monguno and Maiduguri by terrorists,” reports the DHQ. “Coordinated air and land operation being conducted now.”

An immediate curfew has been imposed on Maiduguri “with immediate effect till further notice”.

The insurgents launched their attack in the Njimtilo area, at the edge of the city. This was the same area the insurgents last tried to use in taking over Maiduguri in December 2013.

Shelling has been heard and military aircraft are circling the area.
