Dr Dakuku Peterside, the Governorship Candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers, on Sunday urged the people to remain peaceful and have faith in the security agencies.

Peterside made the call in Abam-ama in Okrika Local Government area when he visited the APC Secretariat destroyed by explosions.

He said the party was confident that the security agencies would fish-out those behind the act.

''Talking about this specific instance of the APC Secretariat in Okrika, the people have seen enough violence and you know that they would reject violence,” he said.

''Our party leaders, please continue to preach the message of peace; do not relent and do not give up,” he said.

According to him, ''the bombing of the party secretariat is a sad development and it is unfortunate that some persons in the society have decided to choose this part.”

Peterside said there had been a pattern of violence lately against the party.

''When we had the presidential rally in Port Harcourt, our people were attacked in Asari-Toru and Tai Local Government areas,’’ he said.

He said some party members, who came for the same rally, were attacked around Elele in Ikwerre Local Government area, alleging that all fingers pointed toward the opposition in the state.

''We have raised these issues with the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies,’’ he said.

''The acts of violence exhibited at many other instances portend danger for our democracy; I do not want to believe that it is a signpost of what to expect in February 14 and 28.”

Peterside said he was optimistic that the police would do something about the various attacks on the party.
