Sports Australian Open: Serena Williams to clash with Maria Sharapova in the final

Serena Williams has qualified for the final of the Australian Open Grand Slam tournament after defeating her compatriot, Madison Keys.

The 33-year old world number one defeated Keys in straight sets 7-6(7-5) 6-2 to secure a final berth with Maria Sharapova.

At 33, Serena becomes the oldest WTA player to reach her sixth Australian open final.

Meanwhile Sharapova on her part, overcame her Russian compatriot, Ekaterina Makarova 6-3 6-2

Sharapova will now face Serena who she has not won in ten years, losing in her last 15 matches against her.

"I think my confidence should be pretty high going into a final of a Grand Slam, no matter who I'm facing and whether I've had a terrible record - to say the least - against someone," said Sharapova.

"It doesn't matter. I got there for a reason. I belong in that spot. I will do everything I can to get the title."
