Sports Brilliant Chelsea gets the better of Manchester City

Chelsea secured one of the best performances of the season, dominating all through to beat Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

It was a battle of wits at the Etihad with both Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho trying to outsmart to each other.

However it was the Portuguese manager who outfoxed the Chilean, getting his tactics spot on.

Chelsea found a way to nick the superiority in the midfield, with David Luiz and Nemanja Matic forming a solid protection for the back four.

But much credit to Chelsea's attacking third who caused immense problems to Manchester City's defence.

With Sergio Aguero,Samir Nasir and Fernandinho all missing in action for City,Chelsea had the leeway to operate at will running City down with impressive runs down the channels.

Yaya Toure couldn't get his legs to an Aleksandar Kolarov's cross that just sailed past him after Petr Cech was clearly beaten.

City came very close again trying to breaking the deadlock after Toure's darting runs in the box resulted in him squaring the ball, but David Silva could not get the touch to score a goal.
But Chelsea on the other end of the pitch were asking their own questions.

Willian and Ramires somehow couldn't score after being faced with a four on one situation against Matija Nastasic as the last man for City, who were caught on the break.

Chelsea's breakthrough came moments later,Hazard set up Ramires to shoot but his effort was repelled by Vincent Kompany, however it fell to the lurking Branislav Ivanovic who rifled in the rebound past Joe Hart for the goal.

The Blues sustained the lead going into the break and still had the momentum at the restart.

Particularly impressive for Chelsea was Eden Hazard who skinned and left City's defenders for dry.

Chelsea would have gone more goals, taking into account that they struck the post on three different occasions: one from Samuel Eto'o in the first half and two others from Matic and Gary Cahill in the second half.

The introduction of Stevan Jovetic brought in impetus for City, but Chelsea held on to see out the game.

David Silva and Jovetic had late chances to score, but couldn't find a way past Cech to equalise.

Chelsea with the win, have now levelled with City on the table meaning that Arsenal maintains their top position on the league.
