Hosts of the 2016 African Nations Championship Rwanda have secured a ticket to the quarter finals after a 2-1 win against Gabon on Wednesday.

Sugira Ernest scored the opening goal for the hosts in the 43rd minutes of play with a thunderous effort.

Sugira was on the mark again for his second goal two minutes after the interval before Aaron Boupendza pulled one back in the 55th minute for Gabon, who were reduced to ten men when defender Tchen Kabi was sent off for a second bookable offence.

In the other game of group A, Cote d'Ivoire beat Morocco by a lone goal to get their first 3 points of the tournament.

Ivorian striker Yannick Zakri converted from the spot at the stroke of half time to earn his side the three points and leave Morocco at the brink of an early elimination.

As things stand, Rwanda tops the group with 6 points while Cote d'Ivoire follows with three points. Morocco and Gabon both have one point.

Rwanda faces Morocco in their last game while Cote d'Ivoire will battle Gabon.
