Bayiseng Emery gave the host country the lead in the 15th minute of the game, and that eventually put Rwanda on top of Group A table temporarily with three points, pending when the second game will be played.

Rwanda would have made it two in the 62nd minute via a spot kick but Ivory Coast's goalkeeper. Badra Ali Sangare denied the host nation the second goal, to keep their goal deficit on a low.

The second group A game will be played 6pm Nigerian time with Gabon playing Morocco and the result will determine who stays top on the log.
