Sports Chelsea beat Tottenham to win Capital One Cup

Chelsea have won the Capital One Cup tournament after beating Tottenham Hotspurs 2-0 to win the trophy.

It was the sort of game that the outcome didn't tell the entire story as Spurs would feel hard done losing the encounter.

Two deflected goals cost Spurs at a packed Wembley stadium, in a final that was soaked with rains.

Spurs played some fantastic football, particularly in the first 45 minutes, but their missed opportunities was their greatest undoing.

The game was feisty and both set of players went into tackles as though their lives depending on it.

It was the duel between Diego Costa and Erik Dier that caught the eye, both players at some point almost physically squared up against the other.

For Spurs' impressive start, they looked the likelier to open the scores, and it almost happened that way when Christain Eriksen struck the bar.

Starting with three central defenders, Kurt Zouma started in a central defensive midfield position, filling in for the suspended Nemanja Matic.

Chelsea went in front at the stroke of half time through their skipper John Terry whose deflected strike beat Hugo Lloris for the opener.

Jose Mourinho's team steered clear of Spurs, scoring the second goal that took the stings off Tottenham.

An own goal from Kyle Walker gave Chelsea a 2-0 lead, with the ball coming off a Costa strike.

There was to be no comeback for Mauricio Pochettino's team in the match, with Chelsea's well drilled defence doing a good job keeping out their dangermen: Harry Kane and Eriksen.

Chelsea with the win, have now won their first trophy of the season, and with Manchester City further losing grounds on them in the run-in for the Premier League title, more trophies could be on the way by May.
