Sports Commonwealth Games update: Another gold medal for Nigeria in Weightlifting

Maryam Usman added to Nigeria's gold medal rush at the 2014 Commonwealth Games when she recorded a win in her weightlifting event.

Usman was the heroine on the night when she topped the women's 75kg event to win a gold medal in her weightlifting category.

Earlier on Wednesday,Nigeria added two gold medals through the wrestling event to pile up the pressure on South Africa who are slightly higher on the medal courtesy of a superior gold medals win.

Usman renewed the belief of usurping South Africa with her victory over Samoa Island ’s Ele Opeloge for the gold.

"Winning the #CWG2014 Gold medal was the best thing that happened to me. Great athletes win Greater athletes never give up #fitfam," Usman wrote on her Twitter page.

Team Nigeria also won another medal through Hannah Reuben, who defeated South Africa ’s Refilwe Molongwana 4-1 in the women’s 69kg wrestling match to win bronze.

Nigeria is still in eight position and has now won a total of 19 medals.
