The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is under pressure to stop probing into the case in which Patience Jonathan, Nigeria's ex first lady is involved.

Dame patience had challenged the EFCC to unfreeze an account which the agency had frozen in the course of a fraud investigation. The account held $15m. Furthermore, the EFCC had also frozen Dame Patience's personal account containing $5m.

However, sources at the agency say the commission had been under pressure to drop the case as there are plans by Patience’s supporters to embark on a series of protests this week.

On Friday, the Port Harcourt head office of the EFCC was stormed by pro-Patience protesters protesting the "ill-treatment" of the ex first lady.
