Enraged unions of the #Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday reportedly locked out members of the school’s Senate over unpaid allowances, 24 hours after the Peoples Democratic Party accused the school's Governing Council of siphoning fund through frivolous awards of contracts.

According to #Punch, the unions are Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union and the Nigerian Association of Academic Technologists

Those affected included the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oladipo Aina, his deputies, and the branch chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Olufayo Olu-Olu, among others.

Late this morning, the administrative building was still under lock and key and some senate members who had arrived immediately left to avoid possible attacks.

The Chairman of SSANU, Comrade Ismail Falade, said the action became necessary due to alleged government’s insensitivity to the yearnings and aspirations of Non-Academic Staff.

But the Vice Chancellor said the issue had been resolved with the unions: “I think they were after some allowances that were approved for them by the federal government. We started paying the allowance last month and they are requesting for us to pay up.
