The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has cautioned politicians to tread with care as they campaign for votes ahead of the general elections of February 14 and February 28.
Oritsejafor said this while fielding questions from newsmen at the retreat of the National Christian Elders Forum in Abuja on Friday.
He said the polity had already been heated as a result of the ongoing politicking by individuals and groups ahead of the polls.
According to him, politics is not a do or die affair and elections will come and go but Nigeria will still remain the same.
He also advised that politics should be done according to the rules and in the right way, so that Nigeria will remain united even after the elections.
''I want to appeal to all politicians again like many have done, please it is not a do or die affair; let us remember that elections will come and go but Nigeria will remain the same. Let us play these games according to the rules. I appeal to your conscience and hearts to do it right so that Nigeria will remain Nigeria,’’ he said.
He said that everyone should be free to vote who they wanted and do exactly what they felt was right in their hearts as stipulated in the tenets of genuine democracy.
