President Jonathan has stated that the first Ladies across the nation “are not spending government money” although the office has been instrumental for the national development of Nigeria's women.
He said this in response to the ongoing social media complaints about the offices constituting a burden to the Nigerian government, serving as outlets through which public funds are leached.
He responded through his Special Assistant on New Media, Reno Omokri, in a tweet saying:
“I can tell you that these offices (of first ladies) are helping to mobilise the women.”
The President also said he believed that women had more of a role to society than 'pounding yams' and becoming 'baby factories.'
