Simone Gbagbo, wife of former Cote d’Ivoire president, Laurent Gbagbo has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, for her part in the violence that followed the country’s 2010 presidential election.
According to BBC, Mrs Gbagbo was charged with undermining state security. Her husband is awaiting trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Over 3,000 persons died after Gbagbo lost the 2010 election to Alassane Ouattara but refused concede defeat or give up power.
