Just a week after they won the FIFA World Cup in Brazil,a member of the triumphant Germany team has reportedly damaged the gold trophy.

Head of the German Football Association Wolfgang Niersbach revealed that the World Cup has been damaged, but it is unknown which player did it.

The trophy was damaged when players were celebrating in Germany after they defeated Argentina 1-0 to end a 24-year wait to win it.

Niersbach told Die Welt: "At one point, a small piece of our World Cup trophy was chipped off. But do not worry, we have specialists on the case who can fix it.

"We have investigated persistently who it was that damaged the trophy, but the investigation was concluded without a result."

It is not the first time that a team's celebrations will lead to a trophy being damaged.

Sergio Ramos dropped the Copa del Rey trophy while they were celebrating Real Madrid's 1-0 win over Barcelona in an open top bus parade in 2011.

That chip that "fell off" would be worth a lot of money. From what I hear the trophy is made of pure gold.
