Herve Renard has been appointed as the new coach of the Ivory Coast national team on a two-year deal.

The 45-year old Frenchman will be succeeding Sabri Lamouchi who stepped down after the 2014 World Cup for failing to take The Elephants past the group stage of the tournament.

Renard has had coaching stints in Africa and helped Zambia win the 2012 African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

"The Elephants are the biggest in the jungle. I'm here to fulfill dreams in the African football jungle," Renard said.

"Exceptional players must win extraordinarily. I'm only here to help guide this great nation. We take it one step at a time."

Ivorian FA president Augustin Sidy Diallo revealed that the renewal of Renard's contract is dependent on how well he does with their national team.

"We were looking for a loyal, able coach who had already proved himself," Diallo said.
