Sports Hope Akpan set to undergo surgery next week

Super Eagles midfielder Hope Akpan could miss up to three months of football action over the shoulder injury he got while playing for Nigeria.

Akpan dislocated his shoulder in last week's 2015 African Nations Cup qualifiers against Congo in Pointe Noire, and was stretchered off in the 53rd minute.

It was initially feared that he would miss only two weeks of action, but it appears that the injury is worse than has been imagined

Reading FC manager, Nigel Adkins, revealed that the 23-year-old player will now be sidelined for at least the next three months.

“We’ve lost Hope. He saw the consultant this morning and he is going to require surgery.

“The decision is they are going to operate on Monday (next week) and that’s going to put him out for three months.

“It’s a blow. I’ve viewed the incident from the game and it was so innocuous, just a brush of the shoulder,” said Reading FC manager, Nigel Adkins.
