Sports Jeremy Mathieu reveals Messi had issues with Luis Enrique

Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu, has admitted that there was indeed a disagreement between Lionel Messi and head coach Luis Enrique during one of their training sessions earlier this month.

Messi had said at the Ballon d'Or press conference that he wishes to ends his career at the Nou Camp but was unsure about the future.

Mathieu revealed than an incident took place shortly after Messi returned from his Christmas break in Argentina, and after Luis Enrique benched him in their 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad, which did not go down well with the 27-year-old.

"It happened when we got back from our holidays. Suddenly, Leo lost his temper after a foul that was not given in training," Mathieu told RMC. "Things got tense and they exchanged some angry words.

"Luis Enrique then approached him in the dressing room afterwards to talk to him and that was the end of it."

However, Mathieu noted that the issue has been sorted out adding that it was blown out of proportion.

"These kinds of things happen everywhere, but it's made out to be a major thing because we are Barcelona," he said. "Things get blown out of proportion and that's the problem."
