Gov. Ibrahim Shema of Katsina on Friday said that the state had recorded N1billion monthly as internally generated revenue for the past three years.
Shema made this known at a one day sensitisation workshop on the Tax Payers Identification Number (TIN), organised by the Joint Tax Board (JTB) and the Katsina Board of Internal Revenue Service.
``The government used certain strategies to jack-up the locally generated revenue from N140million to N1billion.
``“The government is committed towards this project, which informed its decision to pay the required counterpart fund of N112 million for the take-off of the Tax Payers Identification Numbers.
``The workshop signals the formal commencement of the TIN project in Katsina State.
``The government is determined to leave no stone unturned to increase its internally generated revenue,’’ he said.
The governor said that his administration had given the state board of internal revenue all the necessary support and cooperation to enable it to be able to discharge its duties.
Shema said that to enhance its internal revenue, the government revamped the board, organised capacity training and provided computers and other tools for effective operations.
According to him, the government also introduced the pay direct platform, to block revenue leakages.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Alhaji Kabir Mashi, had urged residents of the state to embrace TIN, so as to support the government in generating revenue.
Mashi said that TIN would be of great benefit to both the civil servants and businessmen, as they would use it to pay their taxes.
“The Identification Number is usually processed for the beneficiary free of charge and I urged them to embrace it,’’ he said.
Also speaking, the chairman of the Katsina Board of Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Abubakar El-Nafate, commended the joint Tax Board and the state for organising the workshop.
