Sports Lionel Messi needs two goals to be the highest goalscorer in Spain

Lionel Messi is just two goals shy from becoming the record highest goalscorer in the Spanish La Liga.

The Argentine netted his team's second goal in their 3-0 defeat of Eibar at the Camp Nou on Saturday, taking his tally to 250 goals.

Remarkably, he has achieved this feat at just 27 years old, and also within just 300 games for Barcelona.

Messi is just a goal behind Telmo Zarra's long standing record for Athletic Bilbao which he achieved in the 1940s and 1950s.

But there is no betting against Messi usurping that record and writing his name in gold, as the undisputed king of Spanish football.

With the El Clasico coming up next weekend, it could be the perfect day for him to achieve that landmark.

Although Cristiano Ronaldo too will be on his own personal mission, shattering all the records for Real Madrid.
