Nigeria's Senate President Senator David Mark has tasked the National Identity Management Commission to expedite action on the issuance of the biometrics national identity card to Nigerians.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary,Mr. Paul Mumeh, Mark said the National ID is the needed tool to curtail crimes in the country.
Speaking when he received his new National identity card in Abuja, Mark expressed optimism that the improved National identity card would guide government in accurate planning, check insecurity and the influx of illegal immigrants.
He described the card as an essential document that must be given to all Nigerians as a matter of urgency.
“Most of the challenges we are facing today especially insecurity would have been minimized if we had a good national identity card," he said.
