The National Conscience Party ( #NCP ) on Wednesday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission ( #INEC ) to use card reader machines for the conduct of Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial elections.

The party’s South-West Deputy National Chairman, Mr Waheed Lawal, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Osogbo.

INEC had fixed June 21 and Aug. 9 for #Ekiti and #Osun gubernatorial elections respectively.

Lawal said the announcement by INEC that the machines could not be used for the elections in the two states was not acceptable to the party and the electorate.

He explained that if the card reader machines are used for the elections in the two states, it would minimise rigging and also absolve INEC of any form of electoral malpractice.

Lawal said election in Ekiti and Osun would offer INEC the privilege to test run the card reader machines before the 2015 general elections.

According to him, the use of the machine will go a long way to ensure free and fair election.
