21 out of 37 Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have reportedly rejected calls for the postponement of the February elections; PREMIUM TIMES reports.

In a voting exercise conducted by INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, the 21 RECs said the elections should proceed as earlier scheduled while the 16 other RECs voted for an extension.

There are 37 RECs in Nigeria; one for each state of the federation including the FCT.

What would be interesting is to find out how the RECs in Borno and the main states affected by Boko Haram voted.

First you'll have to find Jega to get that info. Jega is missing...

17 political parties voted for postponement whereby 11 voted against; 16 RECs voted for election postponement whereby 21 voted against. If the political parties have more say than the RECs then the election should be postponed but if the RECs have more say, the dates should remain. If they have equals rights, then all the votes should be counted together. That will make 33 for those that wants the election to be postponed and 32 for those saying no.
