Sports Nigeria will shock the world in Brazil - Taribo West

Former Super Eagles defender Taribo West has tipped the present Nigerian team to surpass all the country's previous World Cup achievements,adding that they will shock the world in Brazil.

With just 49 days to commencement of the 2014 FIFA World Cup,Taribo believes that Nigeria will make a statement at the tournament.

The former Inter and AC Milan defender further added that there is a uniqueness working in the favour of the present Super Eagles team.

“There is something very unique going for the present squad of the Super Eagles and that is what will make them shock the world,” Taribo told Vanguard Sports.

Nigeria has never crossed the second round stage,and Taribo who made two World Cup appearances for Nigeria,in France 1998 and at the Korea/Japan 2002 tournament,added that the record will be broken.

“This time it is going to be different because I see this team breaking that jinx. They will go beyond the second round.”

“In our time we had a fantastic team with exceptional players. This team is different," he added.

"Their strength is that they play as a unit and they have a lot of self belief. In South Africa last year, very few gave them any chance in the tournament but they went ahead to win it, the first by a Nigerian team since 1994. That winning aura is still very much present in the team."

Nigeria is in group F of the,and would play their first game against Iran before subsequent ties against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Argentina.
