Former Nigeria athlete Adewale Olukoju believes that Nigeria might not be able to win a gold medal in the Athletics event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Olukoju who represented Nigeria in the Discus event during his active days, pointed to the fact that the athletes are not adequately prepared for the event which will be a big factor.

The Commonwealth Games commences tomorrow in Glasgow,Scotland but there is little expectation about a successful outing for Nigeria at the competition.

“I wish the team well, but you only get whatever you invest into any project. Even with Blessing, it will be tough to get any gold medal,” he told The Punch.

“It will take a sub-11 seconds, sub-22 seconds and at least 7.0 meters to win the women’s 100, 200 and long jump,” he added.

Olukoju noted that Jamaican and Team Great Britain athletes will most definitely the outstanding ones at the Games.

“With the GB and Jamaican teams in the 4x100m, it will be a hard nut to crack. The women’s 4x400m looked impressive however in their last race. They may end up as the sole gold medal team,” Olukoju added.

Nigeria finished ninth at the last Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi, winning a total of 33 medals.
