There is heavy gunfight between the Nigerian army and Boko Haram terrorists at strategic Bita town near Gwoza in Borno state, Daily Trust says.
Reports say the fighting that started last night when insurgents in an attempt to capture Gwoza attacked a military facility at Bita. They met a stiff resistance from the army, and the fight went on throughout Monday night and continued Tuesday morning.
The fight was said to have forced the military to deploy fighter jets from Yola to support ground troops who were being overwhelmed.
Someone familiar with the matter said the quick response by the jets was a big relief to the troops.
