Sports Nigerian football league to end in November

The 2013/2014 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League has been scheduled to climax on November 9.

Organisers of the league noted that the changes were made to accommodate the assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF)

“We have to come backwards to Nov. 9 because of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Nov. 23,"said Salihu Abubakar, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the League Management Company told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN).

“All the competition must finish before then, so we have to reschedule our matches to finish by Nov. 9.

“Don’t forget that we must make submission by Nov. 30 for our representation in CAF competitions, that is the last day so we have to finish the league by Nov. 9,’’ Abubakar said.

Abubakar equally added that the two-weeks boycott of the league during the NFF crisis, had given players the opportunity to rest, stressing that “we are going to have tough time organising the matches and going forward.

“As it is now, we have to play midweek and weekends for four weeks and we have to conclude 11 matches between now and the end of October.

“ So, it is going to be hectic and tight for us and that is a big challenge.’’

There has hardly been a season that the Nigerian league will successfully toe its calendar, without playing some additional months owing to the constant postponements of matches.
