Sports No FIFA ban: President Jonathan intervenes, Chris Giwa withdraws law suit against the NFF

Reprieve seems to have finally returned to Nigerian football after Chris Giwa on Thursday withdrew his law suit against the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF).

Giwa last week obtained a court injunction that sacked the newly elected NFF board led by Amaju Pinnick, which drew the ire of world football governing body, FIFA.

Following the sacking of the NFF board last week, FIFA on Wednesday gave Nigeria until Friday to resolve its crisis or be banned.

The Federal High Court ruling in Jos, nullified the elections that brought Pinnick to power as the NFF president, and fixed today for further hearing on the matter.

However, reports emerged that President Goodluck Jonathan intervened on the issue, and prevailed on Giwa to withdraw his case from the law court.

When it dawned on Nigeria that FIFA wanted to wield the hammer on the country, the sports minister held meetings with the warring factions on the need for a truce, but all to no avail on Tuesday.

Until President Jonathan waded in and implored Giwa not to continue pursuing his case to made the NFF president.

After the case was withdrawn, Justice Allagoa struck out the suit on Thursday, which now frees the NFF elected board to continue discharging its duties.
