The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is now involved in settling marital disputes to engender peace in the society, its Commndant in Zamfara, Mr Lawan Kano, has said.
The commandant said in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Gusau that it was part of the mandate of the corps.
''Many villagers and uneducated persons report their marriage disputes to the NSCDC for intervention; we call the parties involved for dialogue, and we settle it amicably.
''I took time to read the Islamic Law on marriage in order to settle marriage cases accordingly, and if there is any legal case, I always refer them to court,'' he said.
Kano said many couples now prefer to report their marital disputes to the NSCDC rather than going through other channels.
