On Friday, the Presidency summoned Suleiman Abba, the IG of Police, to explain the events that led to a confrontation between his men and members of the house of representatives at the national assembly on Thursday.

Yesterday, speaker for the house of reps, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, was blocked from entering the National Assembly complex. The house was scheduled to convene to discuss the presidential bill passed for extending the state of emergency in three north-eastern states.

APC politicians have accused President Jonathan of being behind the fracas that ensued, saying President Jonathan was working to remove the speaker, who had recently decamped from the ruling PDP to APC.

After the meeting with Vice President Namadi Sambo, who stood in for the president, who had travelled to London for the Honorary Investment Council (HIIC), Abba has said that an investigation “has been launched and the outcome will be made public soonest.”

When asked by journalists if he ordered the invasion, Abba said: “who did what and who didn’t do what will be disclosed to you later. You know we work with investigations. Investigations are going on and the press officer will address you.”

Speaking to Hausa correspondents afterwards, he said: “everybody has seen that somebody was even beating somebody. Somebody was pushing a policeman from the car.

“Somebody was removing road blocks mounted by the police. We have never seen this kind of thing in the whole world. So we will talk to you later.”
