Religious Persecution?; Islam Banned in Angola, Mosques Shut Down

The Angolan government has officially declared Islam illegal and ordered the closing down of all mosques in the country.

According to Daily Mail, Rosa Cruz e Silva, Minister of culture said that all mosques in the country are to remain closed till further notice. She said,"The legalization of Islam has not been approved by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights [and] their mosques will be closed until further notice".

The International Business Times is claiming that there are unconfirmed reports that mosques across Angola are being destroyed.

Angolan President,Jose Edurado dos Santos reportedly told the Osun Defence daily: "This is the final end of Islamic influence in our country".

Angola is majority Christian nation made up of about 19 million people, of whom an estimated less than 1% are Muslims.
