On August 5,1995, BBC published an article titled, "Ebola cure Hope". The article centered on research by Nigeria's former INEC Chairman, Dr Maurice Iwu who believed that Kolanut may hold the key to Ebola treatment.

According to the article, an active compound in Kolanut has been found to halt the deadly Ebola virus in its tracks in laboratory tests. If repeated in humans, this would give the body a chance to fight off the virus.

The active compound is what is known as a dimeric flavonoid, which is two flavonoid molecules fused together.

Since then till date, not much has been heard about the wonder drug which was to be produced from Kolanut. However, all hope is not lost as Ebola can be tackled.

I'll pass on Maurice Iwu's wonder drug, thanks. I'd focus on not getting the Ebola than on banking on our erstwhile INEC chairman for saving my life.
