National Mirror reported that the Senate may refuse to approve fund for the National Conference if the upper legislative chamber observes that the proceeding is drifting into chaos.
During an interview session with journalists at the Kano state government house, Senator Ibrahim Gaya representing Kano South said, the senate would not fold its arms and see the confrontations at the National Conference disintegrate the nation.
The senator also alleged that President Goodluck Jonathan convened the conference to plunge the country into confusion.
"We politicians saw the handwriting on the wall that President Jonathan was trying to create confusion within the country through his hidden agenda because the issues of revenue allocation and religion among others are too sensitive to be toyed with coupled with lopsided selection of delegates by the Federal Government which has pitted the north against the south, thereby creating confusion on an agreed voting pattern", Gaya said.
"I knew that trouble is coming, and this is the beginning because when you begin to talk of revenue allocation, sharing formula of the oil revenue coupled with the voting pattern and many other things, these issues will generate serious argument".
The senator said there is no need to set up this conference, as the country has 109 Senators, 360 House of Representatives members as well as 36 state houses of assemblies to confer on any serious national issue. According to the senator, the National Assembly in its present composition would have achieved what the conference was set out to achieve; stressing that the country’s lawmakers represents the people from the constituency level, while the elder statesmen at the conference are only representing their respective zones.
