Yesterday, Stella Oduah, Nigeria's aviation minister appeared before the senate committee on Aviation. During her appearance, Oduah told the Senate panel that the aviation sector was in a deep rot when she took office in July 2011.

The embattled minister described the aviation sector as “a dilapidated, unmanned and highly unprofessional sector” when she took a facility tour on assumption of office.

Oduah also played a heart rending video reconstruction sourced from the recovered black box of the crashed plane which airlifted passengers and the remains of former Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Agagu.

“It is not climbing, it is not climbing, oh! We are are in trouble, don’t stall don’t stall, Jesus...”, those were sound transcripts of the recorded last moments between the two pilots of the ill fated Associated Airlines plane which plunged to earth less than three minutes after take-off from Lagos Airport in October leaving 16 of the 20 people on board dead.

Contrary to the expectations of Nigerians, during the Ministers short appearance before the senate committee on aviation, the senators made no mention of the purchase of two BMW 760Li Series bullet-proof cars for the minister by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The senate was also silent on criticism surrounding the aviation minister’s denial of additional landing rights to some international airlines to commence both Cargo and passenger flights to Kano and Abuja.

Also, the senate failed to mention of the proposed national carrier, the Nigerian Eagle.
