Workers in the Ministry of Defense are set to go on strike if the federal government doesn't address their welfare issues, ThisDay reports. The aggrieved workers want their promotion arrears paid and abhor foul play in payment of their salaries. THISDAY reports:

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has thrown its weight behind the resolve of thousands of workers in the Ministry of Defence to embark on strike over management insensitivity towards the welfare of its employees.

The union list other grievances to include short-payment of salary to its members, non-payment of hanging salary (salary that could not be paid for inexplicable reasons), wrongful stoppage of salary, neglect of Lagos and outstations in training programme.

“The general public will be shocked to learn that thousands of civilian Officers in the Ministry of Defence are being owned Promotion Arrears for 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.

“Besides, even those promoted are not properly placed leading to a situation where Officers promoted from grade level 10 to 12, to 13, and to 14 are still receiving salary of grade level 10 officers,” the statement added.
