As part of the sweeping changes taking place in the country's football, the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) has perfected plans to change its name back to the Nigeria Football Association(NFA).

Up until the administration of the Sani Lulu led administration, the Nigerian football body was known as the NFA before it was changed to NFF during the 2008 Annual General Meeting held in Makurdi,Benue State where the designation of the chairman was also changed to president.

It is understood that the forthcoming national congress of the football federation would have the name reverted back to NFA.

There have been conflicts over this name, for example the Nigerian Government does not recognize the football body as the NFF but would rather choose to address them as the NFA.

However,FIFA recognises the NFF name Nigeria adopted, and has addressed them in that light in all of their correspondencies.

The Nigeria football congress will hold on August 26 in Warri,Delta state and it is expected that the name change will occur at the event.

Meanwhile the position of the chairman of the federation will be decided at the congress, with the acting president Mike Okeke Umeh the favoured candidate to emerge as the new leader.
