The suspect behind the assassination of late Chief Ganiyu Akambi Bello, the grand patron of the Yoruba community in Kano State, has confessed that his mission to the home of the deceased on the night of June 5, 2014 was not to assassinate him, but to steal his money.

Abubakar Abdulrahaman, 26, made the confession at the Bompai headquarters of the Nigeria Police, Kano, where he was paraded before journalists.

The suspect, who was arrested at about 10 p.m. on August 25, 2014, at his residence at Badawa Quarters, Kano, by police detectives, expressed regret over the murder.

He explained that when he scaled the fence into the structure, he was not expecting to meet him awake inside the building at that time.
