Mugabe arriving at rally ground with entourage

Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe who is well known for his fiery speeches, today, gave his first post-election speech. Mugabe gave his speech at a rally held to mark Zimbabwe’s Heroes Day.

Mugabe vowed that his victory would never be overturned; he also had a lot to say about his opponent Morgan Tsvangirai who has lodged a petition in court challenging the election outcome.

"Those who were hurt by defeat can go hang if they so wish," Mugabe told thousands of supporters in Harare.

"If they die, even dogs will not sniff at their corpses.

"Never will we go back on our victory."

"We are delivering democracy on a platter. We say take it or leave it, but the people have delivered democracy," Mugabe said.

"They are now looking for excuses claiming they were robbed".

"How can a robber claim he was robbed?

"We found we were dining with and sharing our bed with thieves. We will never give thieves the power to rule."

Mugabe was re-elected on 31st July, when he won a landslide victory in the very controversial Zimbabwean elections. Western observers claim the election was greatly flawed while African observers have insisted it was free and fair.
