Researchers on reproductive health have finally released the results of their long-term study, and it shows that apparently 0.5% of American woman aged 15 to 28 report at least one virgin pregnancy “unrelated to the use of assisted reproductive technology.”

In essence, these women have not had vaginal intercourse or in-vitro fertilization (IVF) before they became pregnant.

The article observes that this phenomenon, known as parthenogenesis, is quite common among non-humans, through the process of "asexual reproduction, where growth and development of the embryo occurs without fertilization".

However, there is a bummer – about 28% of the parents of the “virgin” mothers say they hadn’t taught their daughters about sex and contraceptives, so the study has decided to take into account the possibility of fallible memory, beliefs and religious beliefs skewing this study.
