On Thursday, suspected Boko Haram members stormed Sandiya village in Maiduguri killing persons, burning homes and stealing cars. The report of the attack is emerging late due to the communication shutdown in the area.

In an emailed statement, Lawal Tanko, Borno state commissioner of police said, "Hoodlums invaded the community and killed 12 people".

According to the Times of India, a resident Sabitu Ali, who identified the assailants as "Boko Haram" fighters said that roughly 30 attackers stormed the town in a convoy of trucks and were "chanting Allahu Akbar (God is Great), and shooting everywhere."

"The gunmen were on a revenge mission, they are accusing us of collaborating with security men in tracking them".

The Boko Haram Islamist sect has killed hundreds of civilians in recent weeks and has been named a terrorist organisation by the United States of America.
