Foremost Lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana has described the 19,800 minimum wage currently received by workers as a ‘starvation wage.’

Falana, said at the pre-May Day lecture held in Abuja yesterday where he was a guest speaker.

The activist argue that the government is suffering the populace with its action of paying little and not paying as at when due.

Falana argued that the section 17 of the Constitution rests the obligation to provide a living national wage and make conditions of work humane, successive governments in the country had treated their plight with ignominy.

Falana however called on the Nigerian workers to be resolute in their push for a living wage.

Commenting further, he said, “Even the starvation wage is not paid as and when due as stipulated by law. According to President Buhari, workers in 27 out of 36 states are owed arrears of salaries.
