The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), on Tuesday, said the investigative reviews of the engine teardown, especially the fuel systems of the ill-fated Dana MD 83 aircraft that crashed in Lagos on June 3, 2012 was still ongoing.

Notice of the investigation is contained in a statement issued in Lagos by the Bureau's Head of Public Affairs, Mr Tunji Oketunbi.

The statement quoted Oketunbi as saying that the crash occurred due to total loss of power in both engines as the aircraft approached the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.

Oketunbi said the Draft Final Report on the crashed aircraft was in progress and would be released in due course.

He added that the Bureau was taking its time to ensure that the report was in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Annex 13 and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Aircraft Accident Investigation Regulations 2006.

The AIB head said the bureau had released the first interim report on the crash that occurred at Iju-Ishaga, a suburb of Lagos on June 3, 2013 in which 153 passengers died on board.
